Step 1: Prepare the Pipe Ends
Begin by ensuring the pipe ends are clean and free of burrs or damage. Use a pipe cutter or saw to create a smooth, square cut. Clean the threads on the pipe ends using a wire brush to remove any debris or old sealant, ensuring a proper seal.

Step 2: Apply Thread Sealant or Teflon Tape
Apply thread sealant or Teflon tape to the male threads of the pipe ends. Wrap the tape clockwise, covering all threads, or apply sealant evenly. This step is crucial for creating a leak-free connection, preventing any future seepage.

Step 3: Assemble the Union Fitting Parts
Disassemble the union fitting into its three parts: the nut, the male end, and the female end. Slide the nut onto one of the pipes, followed by either the male or female end. Ensure proper alignment for easy assembly later.

Step 4: Connect the Union Ends to the Pipes
Thread the male and female ends of the union onto the prepared pipe ends. Tighten them by hand initially, then use wrenches to secure them firmly. Avoid over-tightening, which can damage the fitting or pipe threads.

Step 5: Join the Union Fitting and Tighten the Nut
Bring the male and female ends together, ensuring they are properly aligned. Slide the nut over the connected ends and tighten it by hand. Use wrenches to further tighten the nut, securing the union fitting and completing the connection.

Step 6: Test for Leaks
After installation, pressurize the system and check for leaks around the union fitting. Use soapy water to identify any bubbles, indicating a leak. If leaks are found, tighten the nut or disassemble and reapply sealant as needed.
