Do you know how often the air filter of a diesel generator set should be replaced?

Replacement cycle for diesel generator air filters (paper dry type, most commonly used)
Principle: based on hours/natural years, whichever comes first; in dusty environments, the interval is significantly shortened; after 2–3 cleanings, it must be replaced with a new one

1. Standard Cycles Based on Working Conditions

1. Cleanroom Indoor Machine Room (backup units, office buildings/hospitals/basements, low dust)
- Inspection blowing: every 500 hours (low pressure, blowing from inside to outside to remove dust)
- Mandatory replacement: every 1000 operating hours or 12 months, whichever comes first
- Long-term standby units: replace the entire set of air filters annually before startup, even if used for only a few hours

2. Ordinary Outdoor/Factory Area (small amounts of dust)
- Blowing: once every 300–400 hours
- Replacement: every 600–800 hours / 1 year

3. High Dust Severe Environments (construction sites, mines, sand fields, smelting plants, heavy outdoor dust)
- Blowing: must check and clean every 200 hours
- Replacement: mandatory replacement every 300–500 hours (half of the regular cycle)

4. Break-in period after a new or overhauled machine
First 50 hours of operation: open and inspect the air filter; if dirty, replace it immediately; if clean, blow it out, then follow the normal maintenance schedule.

II. Oil bath air filter (for heavy dust, rarely used)
- Clean and replace engine oil: every 100–200 hours
- Filter element: replace every 1000 hours; the oil in the oil reservoir must be replaced with new oil each time it is cleaned

III. Conditions requiring immediate replacement (replace even if the cycle has not been reached)
1. Air filter differential pressure alarm turns red (most authoritative signal)
2. Filter paper is blackened, dust accumulation >80%, damaged, perforated, or shows holes allowing light through, or contaminated by water and oil
3. Low-pressure blow 2–3 times but resistance remains high; if a total of ≥3 blows, discard immediately
4. Unit emits black smoke, power decreases, fuel consumption rises noticeably, idle is unstable
5. Filter paper deteriorates due to damp conditions in rainy season or in a salt-spray environment

IV. Cleaning standards (can only temporarily extend service life, cannot use indefinitely)
- Air pressure ≤0.2–0.3 MPa, blow from the inside of the filter element outward; do not use high pressure, blow in reverse, or wash/soak paper air filters in water/diesel
- Clean at most 2–3 times; even if it appears clean, replace with new, as deep pores can be blocked beyond visible inspection

Minimalist Quick Reference

-Indoor Spare: 1000h/replace yearly, 500h blow once
- Ordinary Outdoor: 800h/1 year
-Construction Site/Mine: 500h maximum, 200h must clean
- Alarm/Damage/3 Blows: Replace immediately
