Step 1: Distinguish between normal white smoke and fault white smoke
- Short-term white smoke upon cold engine start that disappears after warming up is normal and requires no action.
- Continuous white smoke after warm-up, large smoke volume, accompanied by unusual odor or power issues indicates a fault and requires repair.
Step 2: Check for water in fuel (common fault)
1. Operation: Loosen the drain screw at the bottom of the diesel filter and water separator to release accumulated water and impurities until only clean diesel flows, then tighten the screw.
2. Inspect the fuel tank: Check the bottom of the tank for water or contaminants.
3. Handling: Replace the diesel if water content exceeds the standard, and replace the diesel filter element.
4. Test run: Run the engine after draining water and changing fuel; if white smoke disappears, the fault is resolved.
Step 3: Verify the injection system condition
1. Check the injector: Disassemble and inspect atomization. If there is dripping, scattered fuel jet, or delayed injection, polish for repair or replace the injector.
2. Check injection timing: If timing is late, fuel cannot fully combust; adjust to standard injection advance angle.
3. Inspect high-pressure fuel pump: Pump wear or abnormal fuel supply can also cause abnormal smoke; repair or calibrate the pump if necessary.
Step 4: Check for cylinder water damage
1. Inspect coolant: Check if the radiator water level drops unexpectedly or if bubbles appear.
2. Inspect engine oil: Pull out the dipstick. If the oil is milky or a mixture of water and oil, the cylinder head gasket is damaged and leaking.

Step 6: Adjust environment and fuel compatibility
1. Use diesel with the appropriate pour point in low-temperature environments to avoid poor atomization due to fuel gelling.
2. Avoid substandard diesel; contaminants or wax can cause abnormal combustion and white smoke.
3. In winter, check intake preheating devices; failure can reduce low-temperature combustion efficiency and increase smoke.

1. White smoke disappears after draining water → Water in fuel.
2. Accompanied by milky oil, coolant shortage → Cylinder head gasket damage.
3. Smoke with pungent fuel odor → Injector atomization issue.
4. Weak power, hard starting → Insufficient compression or timing deviation.
