Complete Step-by-Step Procedure for Changing Diesel Generator Engine Oil (Practical Version, Follow the Sequence)

I. Preparatory Work

1. Start the engine and run it idle for 3–5 minutes to heat the oil and thin it, making it easier to drain impurities completely.
2. Stop the engine and disconnect the battery switch.
3. Prepare: new engine oil, oil filter, wrench, oil drain pan, cloth, funnel.

II. Draining Old Engine Oil

1. Locate the oil drain screw on the oil pan and place the oil drain pan underneath.
2. Unscrew the drain screw and completely drain the old engine oil.
3. After the old oil is drained, pour in a small amount of new engine oil to flush, wait for it to flow out, then clean the drain screw and reinstall it, tightening it carefully (do not overtighten to avoid stripping).

III. Replacing the Oil Filter

1. Use the filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
2. Clean the sealing surface on the filter base.
3. Apply a thin layer of new engine oil to the rubber seal of the new filter.
4. Hand-tighten the new filter, then use the wrench to turn an additional 1/4 turn-do not overtighten.

IV. Refilling with New Engine Oil

1. Open the engine oil fill cap.
2. Use a funnel to slowly add new engine oil while checking the dipstick.
3. Fill to slightly above the midpoint between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick, but do not overfill.

V. Checking for Air and Test Run

1. Let the engine sit for 3–5 minutes so the oil flows back into the oil pan, then check the oil level again and top up if necessary.
2. Start the engine and run it at idle for 3–5 minutes, observing the oil pressure and checking for leaks.
3. Stop the engine and let it sit for 5 minutes, then check the oil level again and fill to the standard mark.

VI. Key Precautions

- Use engine oil specifically for diesel engines; do not use gasoline engine oil.
- The oil filter must be replaced simultaneously; changing oil without replacing the filter is ineffective.
- Draining oil when the engine is warm ensures cleaner drainage; cold oil leaves sediment behind.
- Used engine oil is hazardous waste and must not be disposed of arbitrarily; it should be collected and processed properly.
