Some diesel generator sets used outdoors may not be timely wetted due to rain cover. If not taken care of in a timely manner, it will lead to rust, corrosion, damage to the generator set, reduced insulation resistance of the circuit when exposed to water and moisture, and a risk of breakdown, short circuit, and burning, shortening the service life of the generator set. Below, the diesel generator set manufacturer summarizes 6 care items:
1. Firstly, rinse the surface of the diesel engine with water to remove soil and debris, and then use metal cleaning agents or laundry detergent to eliminate the oil stains on the surface.
2. Support one end of the diesel engine so that the oil pan drain area is in a lower position, unscrew the oil drain plug, pull out the oil dipstick, and allow the water in the oil pan to flow out on its own. When the oil is about to be drained, slightly let the oil and water drain together before turning on the drain plug.
3. Remove the air filter of the diesel generator set, remove the upper shell of the filter, remove the filter element and other components, remove the water inside the filter, and clean all parts with metal cleaner or diesel. If the filter is made of plastic foam, wash it with detergent or soapy water (gasoline is prohibited), then rinse it with clean water, dry it in the air, and then dip it with appropriate amount of engine oil (squeeze it with hands after soaking). When replacing with a new filter, the same oil immersion should be performed. The filter element is made of paper and needs to be replaced with a new one. After cleaning and drying each part of the filter, install it according to the rules.
4. Remove the intake and exhaust pipes, as well as the muffler, to drain any internal water. Turn on the pressure relief valve, rotate the diesel engine, and check if there is water discharged from the intake and exhaust ports. If there is water discharged, continue to rotate the crankshaft until all the water in the cylinder is drained. Install the front and exhaust pipes, as well as the muffler. Add a small amount of engine oil to the intake port, rotate the crankshaft several times, and then install the air filter. If the diesel engine has a long time of water ingress and it is difficult for the flywheel to roll, it indicates that the cylinder liner and piston rings have already rusted. They should be removed for rust removal, cleaned thoroughly before equipment is installed. If the rust is severe, it should be replaced in a timely manner.
5. Remove the fuel tank and drain all the oil and water inside. Check if there is water in the diesel filter and oil pipe. If there is water, it should be drained. Clean the fuel tank and diesel filter, then reinstall them, connect the oil circuit, and add clean diesel to the fuel tank.
6. Drain the sewage from the water tank and waterway, clean the waterway, and clean the river water or boiled well water until the water float rises. Turn on the throttle switch and start the diesel engine. The manufacturer of Cummins generator sets advocates that after starting the diesel engine, attention should be paid to checking the lifting status of the oil indicator and listening for any abnormal noises from the diesel engine of the diesel generator set. After checking whether all parts are normal, the diesel engine was run in. The running in sequence is to idle first, then medium speed, and then high speed, with each operation time of 5 minutes. After running in, stop the machine and drain the oil. Add new engine oil, start the diesel engine, and operate at medium speed for 5 minutes before normal operation can begin.
