Do you know when the first maintenance should be carried out on a newly purchased diesel generator set?

Initial maintenance time for a brand new diesel generator set is for reference and study only. For actual execution, please strictly follow the manufacturer's standards and requirements.

Ⅰ. General standards (applies to most domestic/joint venture units)

When the total running time reaches 50 hours, the first break-in maintenance must be done, based on the hour count.

1. As long as the cumulative running time reaches 50 hours, regardless of whether it took days or months, perform maintenance immediately;

2. If the unit has been idle for a long time, even if the cumulative hours are less than 50 but a month has passed, it is also recommended to perform initial maintenance early to prevent oil oxidation and deposit formation;

3. Small single-cylinder air-cooled portable generators should also follow the 50-hour first maintenance rule.

Few manufacturers' extended standards (very limited models)
Some high-power imported unit manuals indicate 50–100 hours, but the industry generally recommends maintenance at 50 hours because metal debris is most common during the break-in period, and delaying maintenance can easily damage bearings and cylinders.

Ⅱ. Early maintenance under special conditions
- Construction sites with high dust, high load continuous operation, frequent start-stop: perform first maintenance at 30–40 hours; - Frequently running at full load or long continuous load: no more than 50 hours.

Ⅲ. Essential items for the first maintenance (core)
1. Drain old oil when the engine is hot and replace the oil filter; 2. Replace the diesel filter; 3. Clean/replace the air filter; 4. Fully tighten all bolts on cylinder head, chassis, generator, and pipelines; 5. Check coolant, belt tension, and any oil or water leaks; 6. Check battery connections and control circuit tightness.

Ⅳ. Important reminders
1. Not performing the first maintenance on time may directly void the engine manufacturer's warranty;

2. During the break-in period (0–50 hours), full load operation is prohibited, and the load should be controlled at 30%–70% and gradually increased.
