The automatic control panel is the control brain of the diesel generator set, integrating monitoring, fault protection, and remote communication functions, and is widely used in unmanned backup power scenarios such as engine rooms, base stations, hospitals, and data centers.

I. Overall Structure and Core Components

1. Core Intelligent Controller (Core)

Mainstream Brands: Deep Sea DSE, HGM, ComAp, Cummins PC series; LCD Chinese display, built-in logic program, all automation logic calculations executed by it.

Standard panel buttons: AUTO / MANUAL / STOP / Emergency Stop button, paired with indicators for running status, alarms, mains power, and generator.

2. Monitoring Instruments and Sampling Components

- Electrical Parameters: Three-phase voltmeter, ammeter, frequency meter, power/power factor meter, current transformer

- Engine Parameters: Oil pressure sensor, water temperature sensor, speed acquisition, battery voltage detection, running timer

- Voltage Regulation Unit: AVR automatic voltage regulator to stabilize generator output voltage

3. Electrical Actuation Components

- Output Main Circuit Breaker: Overload and short-circuit interruption, controls generator power output

- Relays: Starting motor, fuel solenoid valve, preheating, audible and visual alarm output

- Mains Sampling Module: Real-time detection of mains power outages, phase loss, overvoltage/undervoltage

- Optional ATS Automatic Transfer Switch (integrated in the vertical control cabinet): Automatic load switching between mains power and generator

4. Auxiliary Accessories

- Float Charger: Continuously charges the starter battery on standby to ensure it can start anytime.

- Audible and Visual Alarm: Fault alerts with sound and light.

- Communication Interface: RS485/232, Ethernet, GPRS, supporting remote "three remote" operations (remote control, remote monitoring, remote signaling).

II. Three Core Work Modes

Mode 1: MAN Manual Mode (Maintenance, Testing)

Manual operation for start-up, shutdown, and power-on; no automatic logic. The generator won't start automatically if mains power is off. Mostly used for maintenance and testing.

Mode 2: AUTO Automatic Mode (Daily Backup Standard)

Fully unattended operation, complete mains linkage logic:

1. Standby Monitoring: Continuously monitors mains voltage, automatically float-charges the battery, and scans generator oil pressure, water temperature, and locks faults in real-time.

2. Mains Failure Trigger: If mains power is out / phase missing / over or under voltage, a few seconds delay prevents false triggering.

3. Full Automatic Start Process

① Pre-start self-check: Start is allowed only if no low oil pressure, high water temperature, overspeed, or emergency stop lock is present.

② Preheating (for cold models) → Open fuel valve → Starter motor operates.

③ Three retry attempts: If the first attempt fails, delay and retry; lock and alarm after three failures.

④ Speed reaches 1500rpm (50Hz), AVR stabilizes voltage, start is considered successful.

⑤ ATS switches off mains, closes generator breaker, load is supplied by the generator.

4. Mains Recovery Shutdown Process

Once mains is restored and stable, after a delay confirmation → ATS switches load back to mains → Generator runs unloaded to cool for 3–5 minutes → Automatically shuts down and returns to standby.

Mode 3: STOP / Emergency Stop

- Normal Shutdown: Unload, idle to cool, then cut fuel to stop.

- Emergency Stop: Red mushroom button cuts fuel immediately, forcing shutdown. Fault lock requires manual reset.

III. Real-time Full Parameter Monitoring Function

The controller continuously displays all operating data and stores historical fault records:

1. Electrical side: three-phase voltage, three-phase current, frequency, active/reactive power, power factor, cumulative power generation

2. Engine side: oil pressure, coolant temperature, generator speed, battery voltage, cumulative running hours, number of starts

3. Status signals: mains normal/mains fault, generator running, load on/off, alarm, start failure

IV. Hierarchical Fault Protection (Core Safety Function)

Divided into two levels: pre-warning alarm and emergency shutdown protection, to prevent damage to the engine and generator:

1. Pre-warning (only audible and visual alarm, does not shut down immediately)

High water temperature, high oil temperature, slight overload, low battery voltage, low fuel level

2. Emergency shutdown (immediate fuel cut-off, breaker trip, fault lock)

- Engine-related: low oil pressure, overspeed (>115% rated speed), excessively high water temperature, three consecutive start failures, emergency stop pressed

- Generator/electrical-related: overvoltage/undervoltage, overfrequency/underfrequency, overload, short circuit, three-phase voltage imbalance, reverse power (for grid-connected models)

After a fault shutdown, the controller stores the fault code, the panel displays the fault type, and manual reset is required before restarting.

5. Expansion of Advanced Functions

1. Parallel Control of Multiple Units

Multiple units operate synchronously, automatically allocate loads, and adjust the number of units according to the load, standard for high-power machine rooms.

2. Remote Monitoring (Three Remotes)

Connect to the monitoring platform via 4G/Ethernet to view parameters remotely, start and stop remotely, and receive fault SMS notifications; suitable for base stations, unmanned base stations, and remote construction sites.

3. Timed Automatic Test Run
Set the unit to automatically run unloaded for a few minutes weekly or monthly to prevent rusting from long-term inactivity, and automatically shut down when completed.

4. Preheating/Water Jacket Heater Linkage
Automatically start the water jacket heater in low-temperature environments to ensure successful first-time startup in cold conditions.

5. Firefighting Linkage
Trigger the unit to start forcibly when receiving a fire alarm signal, ensuring power supply for fire pumps and emergency lighting.
