In the first half of this year, Dongfeng Cummins delivered a notably impressive performance: defying the trend in a fiercely competitive market, overall sales achieved double-digit growth, setting a new historical high. What is even more remarkable is its multi-faceted structural growth-light trucks, construction machinery, overseas markets, and marine power businesses all recorded double-digit growth.

 

Beyond these impressive figures lies a more intriguing change within the growth structure: Dongfeng Cummins' growth engine no longer relies solely on the domestic traditional truck market. Instead, through large-scale deliveries in overseas markets and continuous record highs in the non-road sector, it has successfully established a more robust and diversified development pattern.

 

At the same time, the shift from a purely 'supplier' relationship to a deeper 'co-creation' relationship with OEMs is propelling Dongfeng Cummins into a broader trajectory. Ⅰ. Overseas Non-Road Vehicle Sales Reach Record High: Diversified Businesses Bring New Growth
The sales data of Dongfeng Cummins in the first half of the year reveal a fact: the traditional automotive market remains the foundation, but it is no longer the sole growth driver. Behind this structural shift lies strong underlying support. Looking back, from the beginning of the cooperation between Dongfeng Motor and Cummins in 1986, to the establishment of the joint venture in 1996, and the capital increase and expansion in 2003, up to the present, Dongfeng Cummins has delivered over 4.3 million engines to customers, with products covering the full range from 2.5 liters to 16 liters. It is precisely relying on three decades of accumulated technology and the risk-resilience capability of a full-displacement product matrix that the company has been able to secure a solid foundation while successfully opening up new growth trajectories in diverse business areas.

 

Let's first look at the overseas market. As Dongfeng Cummins' largest overseas market, Vietnam exported 1,203 engines in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 94%. In the South Asian market of Pakistan, engine exports reached 779 units in the first half of the year, a sharp year-on-year increase of 155%; in the East African market of Tanzania, 257 engines were exported in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 90%.

The Australian market has also achieved a new breakthrough. On June 17, the Dongfeng light commercial vehicle CAPTAIN.45, equipped with the Dongfeng Cummins D2.5 engine, made its debut in Australia. This marks Dongfeng's first entry into the right-hand-drive market in Australia, signifying that its product capabilities and service system have already penetrated the overseas high-end commercial vehicle sector. Currently, Dongfeng Cummins products are available in more than 190 countries and regions worldwide.

Looking further at the non-road market, the two major segments of construction machinery and power generation business are both expected to reach historical highs by 2026, becoming new engines driving growth. Dongfeng Cummins' non-road power product portfolio covers all categories of equipment, including excavators, road machinery, drilling rigs, and air compressors, while its power generation solutions are precisely targeted at scenarios such as telecom base stations, hospitals, mines, and farming bases. Leveraging the efficient combustion technology of high-pressure common rail fuel systems, as well as stable performance under extreme conditions and low fuel consumption advantages, Dongfeng Cummins' non-road-related business sales have set new records for the same period for five consecutive years.

Ⅱ.From 'Supplier' to 'Co-Creator': The Changing Collaboration Logic Between Dongfeng Cummins and OEMs
 

In the first half of this year, Dongfeng Cummins achieved deep integration across the entire value chain with its core partners, including Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles, and Dongfeng Import and Export. The two sides broke the traditional boundaries of supply and demand, extending their cooperation comprehensively from front-end R&D calibration and mid-end scenario validation to back-end vehicle launch and end-user delivery, entering a new stage of co-creation.

 

The high growth of Dongfeng Cummins in the first half of the year is largely attributed to this deep collaboration with OEMs-not simply "providing engines for you," but rather "tackling the market together and serving customers together."

 

This collaboration is reflected in four aspects: 


First, customized new product development and joint launch. In March, Dongfeng Motor and Cummins celebrated the 40th anniversary of their partnership in Wuhan and formally signed a new memorandum of cooperation, focusing on three key areas: the "Genesis" Truck 3.0 project, development and vehicle integration of National VI products, and overseas market expansion, systematically promoting full value chain collaboration from R&D to service. Around the same time, the Dongfeng Tianlong KH equipped with the Dongfeng Cummins Z15N FE gas engine was launched in multiple locations. In May, the Dongfeng Qiankun product showcase featuring the Dongfeng Cummins D2.5/D3.0 engines was held in Xiangyang. For Dongfeng Cummins, this not only represents the launch of new products but also a process of co-building brand recognition and sharing user reputation with the OEM.

Second, territorial localization. In response to industry changes, Dongfeng Cummins established the Liuzhou branch, continuously strengthening communication with Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor and ensuring sufficient technical reserves. This approach of "building the factory at the customer's doorstep" enables Dongfeng Cummins to respond to Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor's product needs promptly. Third, collaborate on going overseas. Dongfeng Cummins works with OEMs like Dongfeng Import & Export and Dongfeng Motor Corporation, leveraging Cummins to tailor engine products for different overseas market regulations and operating conditions, so the vehicles are ready to perform as soon as they launch. They also localize operations and full lifecycle services on the ground, using reliable engines and a mature service network to help manufacturers turn their global strategies into reality.

Fourth, full lifecycle services. During the 6·18 e-commerce promotion, Dongfeng Cummins took the lead and, in collaboration with OEMs, Eaton Cummins, and other partners, launched the "Customer Care Miles Journey" initiative: visiting logistics companies such as JD Logistics and Yunda Express, as well as key regional clients including Neijiang Yufeng Logistics and Huizhou Shijie Logistics, to gain a detailed understanding of customer needs, conduct vehicle inspections, and provide technical training. This "nanny-style" service supports OEM customer operations and jointly enhances the lifecycle value of the vehicles.

Ⅲ.Standing at the new starting point of the 30th anniversary

Such remarkable sales figures appearing at the milestone of the 30th anniversary of the Dongfeng Cummins joint venture hold special significance. They indicate that Dongfeng Cummins has entered a new growth curve. Of course, challenges still exist. Competition will not ease, and the situation is rapidly changing - these are issues that Dongfeng Cummins must continue to address.
